The vaccine alone will not do it. The CDC and all other health agencies have been saying this all along. It will still require masks and distancing for some time to come. Of course, I am a HUGE fan of vaccines and hope one day to get mine. It would have been helpful if we had actually developed a national distribution/vaccination policy in addition to plowing money into development.

No matter which way you turn you run into right wing jerks.

Dodger Stadium’s COVID-19 vaccination site temporarily shut down after protesters gather at entrance

A protest organized by Shop Mask Free Los Angeles rally against COVID vaccine at the vaccination site at Dodger Stadium.

Dodger Stadium’s mass COVID-19 vaccination site was temporarily shut down Saturday afternoon when about 50 protesters gathered at the entrance, frustrating hundreds of motorists who had been waiting in line for hours.

The Los Angeles Fire Department closed the entrance to the stadium — one of the largest vaccination sites in the country — for about an hour starting just before 2 p.m. as a precaution, officials said. Several LAPD officers also responded to the scene; a spokeswoman for the department said no arrests were made.

Andrea Garcia, a spokeswoman for Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, said that despite the 55-minute interruption, no appointments were canceled.

“We remain committed to vaccinating Angelenos as quickly and safely as possible,” she said.

The demonstrators included members of anti-vaccine and far-right groups. While some carried signs decrying the COVID-19 vaccine and shouting for people not to get the shots, there were no incidents of violence.

“This is completely wrong,” said German Jaquez, who drove from his home in La Verne and had been waiting an hour for his vaccination when the stadium’s gates were closed. He said some of the protesters were telling people in line that the coronavirus is not real and that the vaccination is dangerous.

Forgive me please. I just can’t buy that a vaccine is “95% effective.” Did they literally spray each recipient with COVID in the face?

And then think about this. Get the vaccine, it works…..but then you still have to wear a mask because you might get the virus anyway. Does this make any sense?

It’s just like the old adage, if if something sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. In 6-10 months as this rolls out then I may feel differently.

And NO, I am not an anti-vaccine person. I have all my adult immunizations (except COVID), my children are vaccinated and up to date.

And I am immune compromised in one of those “high risk” groups as well.

Just because some of us question the vaccine, does not mean we are against it. Alas, The name-calling and personal insults begin in….3…..2…..1…..

Starting March 1st 2020 this scale shows the number of deaths in each country in relation to Covid. It is easier to follow on a larger screen and interesting to compare deaths by Country for: Stroke, Influenza, Heart Disease, Dementia, Car accidents etc..It does, however, make one wonder what countries like China, Cuba, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea did to mitigate Covid-19 in their regions.

We still need to steer the vaccines to all the people who need them.

It’s actually simple: The virus is immobile. It can’t walk, fly, crawl, or swim. It requires US to carry it to the next person. Stop being its rapid transit system and it will die out.

Back at the beginning of the pandemic, Joseph Stiglitz wrote a commentary calling for patent-free vaccines, given the magnitude and nature of the problem and all that we knew about viral disease in general. It is too bad that his idea was not followed. Unless everyone gets the vaccine, we all remain in danger of the virus, and it is up to the rich nations to reach out to help the poor nations. It isn’t altruism, it’s simple self-preservation. Active viral infections mutate, and that simple fact is essential to remember when considering how and whom to vaccinate.

I refuse to respond to MontanaWilly, but the dude is certifiably nuts. The “Trump Vaccine”? Ha Ha Ha Ha! Trump pushed every quack “cure” he could, and all the actual scientists were crying whenever he spoke. It’s the TRUMP VIRUS because no single person is more responsible for the hundreds of thousands of deaths that could have been avoided. Some of those vaccines now being used have nothing to do with federal funding, so Trump gets NO credit for them. The anti-vaxxer movement got traction under Trump — just go to Wyoming (Trump country) and ask how many of them believe they even need a vaccine. Just ask them how many of them need to wear a mask. I have NO patience for those who deny the science and who don’t take seriously their responsibility for their fellows.

TRUMP looked at the Pandemic Storm and saw the helm as a WHEEL OF FORTUNE if he could get everybody to buy “HIS” cure all pills with a dose of Clorox.

And to think, there are Americans that wanted the former Oval Office Occupant, to serve another term, in which he would have tried to make a profit for the vaccine and not gave a snap about those of us common Americans’ health.

Had we any gallantry left in the world, we would vaccinate those at risk in first world countries, then move on to those at risk in underdeveloped nations, before then working on the rest of our populations in both hemispheres. However, we have allowed nationalism to reign supreme since the eighties and therefore it’s Capitalism to the Nth degree. Me first and the devil take the hindmost. It’s a global pandemic and we only want to treat nations, thus the virus will be around for many years to come yet and mutating ahead of our vaccines. We aren’t out of the woods yet. In fact, we seem to be planting fast growing plantations.

Well, the way to turn the economy around is to re-open businesses, which causes them to re-hire employees which gives them enough money to spend at newly opened businesses… And the way to do that safely  is to have herd immunity. And the best way to do that  safely is via vaccines.

For all of you RW naysayers, it’s time to be ACTUAL patriots! Put a damned mask on your face (or two), wash those hands, and social distance. Had you done this in the first place instead of worshipping a false idol (isn’t that against your religion?), we wouldn’t be as f*cked as we are.
