My grandmother raised ten children during the Great Depression. She wasted nothing and that included weiner-water, not for the flavor as much as for the food value that would otherwise be wasted. I learned a lot from her.

Lots of nostalgia in this strip. Wonder bread still around? That’s the only bread that you could ball up and make dumplings out of. When you are hungry(and I mean hungry, like having not eaten for a few days or even a week) – you can’t imagine how good weird things taste.

Back when I was a teenager, there was a Wonder Bread facility on the main road from our house into the heart of the city. The most wonderful smell came from it…

Somehow, Agnes has stopped being funny and is mostly depressing.

Would you rather be poor and happy, or rich and miserable?

I imagine Agnes’ next soup du jour will be boiled funny bone… makes a wonderful laughing stock… and it’s humerus! :>)

Throw in some dollar store ramen and you’ve got soup.

Her world-class stock is nauseating (don’t even get me started on the Wonder Bread dumplings). And knowing Agnes, I’d be worried that she’s following the method I’ve seen some people use: boiling the hot dogs for up to 30 minutes, thus creating gross and flavorless hot dogs.

I prefer to broil them, but if you like them boiled, here’s the correct method: boil the water, shut off the heat, put in the hot dogs, and cover. Leave them in the hot water for 7 minutes. Remove and serve immediately.

    You’re welcome.
