Even Nixon is turning over in his grave at the sight of today’s authoritarian GOP’s efforts to suppress the vote. The joke will be on them if they keep their own supporters from voting.
Now THIS is accurate. At every step of the process, they work their hardest to keep people from voting. I never despised a party before, but over the last four decades, Republicans have descended into immorality until they have become monsters with no discernible morality other than “I get what I want” and “night makes right, but only if I have the might.”
My state of New Jersey was all mail-in voting this cycle. I cast my most important vote. YES on Ballot Question One, legalizing marijuana use for adults. Oh, yeah. I also voted for the Biden/Harris ticket.
Samantha Bee quipped on her last episode of “Full Frontal” that 2020 might be your last chance to vote in a “free and fair” election. At my age, and with the pandemic (that does or does not exist, depending on who you talk to), that wasn’t exactly reassuring to me. /s
I find it hard to believe that we can’t find better candidates than we seem to come up with way too often. Biden is a decent guy and Kamala is really bright and both are light years ahead of the shithead. But I would have liked to have seen someone younger than Biden who would be more likely to serve 2 terms and I think Kamala might have been a better choice for AG. Way to often we are voting against someone rather than for someone. That’s one reason we ended uyp with what we have now.
There needs to be a concerted effort by US citizens to significantly alter the electoral system in my humble opinion. In Australia we have an independent Electoral Commission, that establishes electoral boundaries in an impartial manner, ensuring no gerrymandering. Voting in this country for both State and Federal elections is compulsory and ensures to some degree a considered approach as to where one casts a vote. The citizens need (as in this country), to find their local representatives and then unite to pester them to change the rules. We all need to stop whining that ‘they don’t represent me’, if we don’t personally hold ‘them’ accountable. It dismays me to see the ‘great democratic republic experiment’ being hijacked by one party simply in an effort to gain and remain in power.
Under Trump, the once responsible and respectable GOP has completely transformed itself into the POM, the Party of Misery: the Trump Pandemic, kowtowing to white supremacists and anti-Semites, seeking to kill off the ACA, separating families at the border, eviscerating civil rights and fair housing legislation, voter suppression, and so, so much more.

I certainly did vote… but here in Oregon, the GOP efforts have been mostly ineffective… though they did manage to gerrymander districts a bit.

Voted in person last week. First in line. Left the polling place murmuring: “Abbott, I’m coming for you next.”
On Election Day I plan to take a drive past my polling place, wondering what sort of shenanigans might be happening.

Republicans are afraid of Americans, they do more to stop your vote than they do to stop you getting killed by covid.
