“The party of Lincoln” has been dead for years. The vitriol spewed by Rethuglicans and “con-servatives” over the past few decades stuck knife after knife in its back. I’ll never vote for anyone with an “®” after their name again.
My father, a true conservative, a decorated WWII vet, passed in 2015. Regardless, he told me that FDR’s measures during the Great Depression brought hope to many Americans and saved this nation. He would have been appalled beyond measure by Hair Groppingfuror’s complete abdication of responsibility to try and control COVFEFE-45 as well as his lying, hypocrisy, greed, immorality, and racism.
Republicans today are totally against the party platform of 1956, which was for healthcare, education, social security and unions. That was back before republicans turned into fascist Nazis. Stop voting for republican rats.
If Abraham Lincoln traveled forward in Time to the present day … What in astonishment would he see? Many things that would amuse him, but others not much to his liking, for instance —
His image on pennies and five dollar bills. His name and picture on annual advertising merchandise sales. Dozens of actors imitating him, nobly as well as jocularly. Soppy movies about his life, even a horror movie (“Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter”). Perhaps the claim by this current president that he himself did more for the former slave race than he, Lincoln.
But perhaps the situation that would anger him most: The political party that evolved from Lincoln’s own, turning into a symbol of hatred, injustice, inequality, and —eventually as it now appears to be going —Fascism. The Lincoln Memorial might then appear to him a cruel joke.
Can someone explain his image here? What does Lincoln have to do with Trump? My apologies for not following the news closely. It’s the only way I can hope to maintain sanity.
The Republican Party began in the 1854 as the Liberal party in the U.S. Lincoln, a Liberal, was their first elected president. The Republican Party had a Liberal wing well into the 1960s, and last led by Thomas Dewey. It was Nixon’s ‘Southern Strategy’ in 1968 that converted conservatives in the South to the GOP. Imagine the South supporting ‘the party of Lincoln’. The joke was on them. If Lincoln were president today Republican/conservatives would impeach him.

This would make a good Lincoln Project billboard, to go along with the Ivanka and Jared ones.
