Lucy had good intentions. She remembered the date of Beethoven’s birthday and wanted to send a card. She was only trying to be nice to Schroeder. Does anyone remember the strip in which Woodstock thought that Beethoven was a bird? That was adorable and hilarious.

I think Schroeder’s affectation for all things Beethoven must be because of Schulz’s consideration that people would be most familiar with that name. However, a better choice for Schroeder, as a pianist, would be Mozart or Chopin (imho).

Send a card anyway. Individuals, especially famous individuals, being dead hasn’t stopped folks from leaving things at their gravesites. Money, alcohol, toys, letters, cards, flowers, kisses, etc., folks leave things for the dead even when there was no chance they could have known them in life.

Beethoven’s birthdate isn’t actually known. It is known that he was baptised on December 17th. Law and custom at the time dictated that babies be baptised within 24 hours of birth, so the assumption is that he was born on December 16th.
