Former Enron employee here. My lasting memory of the place will be of a “town hall” meeting where someone wrote in a question about whether they should keep investing in Enron stock (the stock had just started to decline), and Jeff Skilling said “I’ll let my secretary answer that!” and handed her the mic and of course she said “hell, yeah!” I found out a few years later that Skilling had been dumping his stock before that meeting. So, he didn’t lie, but he sidestepped the question, and I suppose in his mind that justified it. And all those loyal people took the hit.

A couple years later, all I had from that job was some Enron stock and an Enron hat. And the hat was worth more than the stock.

My wife and I had a laugh the other day. We remember when you turned on the TV or radio and you had to wait until the tubes warmed up. The other day we turned on our TV, and we had to wait for a software download! Progress!

What cracks me up about Born in the USA is how often it is played at Republican rallies. Did the people running the rally listen to the song before they picked it? It’s not about how wonderful the USA is…

I was in Vietnam on business just before COVID hit. Absolutely wonderful people, and they were all very interested in learning about Capitalism and how we do business. It’s a country with almost 100 million people and if they all start to move in the same direction we’re going to see some serious stuff.

Thanks for the shout out for The World at War. I watched that as a kid with my dad (WWII vet). It opened my eyes to the war outside America’s involvement. I literally thought that WWII began at Pearl Harbor.

I think your carefully worded comment seems to have gone over most people’s heads! A few people got it. That said, I will not be Googling “Nose Cone Video” tonight.

Rats notwithstanding, this strip makes a good point. The ads on Talk Radio are the worst! Invest in gold, invest in timeshares, get out of timeshares, beat the IRS, testosterone supplements, diet pills…every kind of scam. I listen to the host try to make some point for ten minutes, and then with the next breath he opens his mouth to tell me that society is collapsing and I need to invest in gold and survival cookies, and I remind myself why I stopped listening to talk radio.

This. I live in Los Angeles and if I sit in the backyard at night I can watch the Norway rats using the power lines like an expressway to get to everyone’s fruit trees. Smart and surprisingly quick for their size! They drive my dog crazy.
