The Handmaid’s Tale – haven’t really followed it, but guessing it has something to do with suppression of women’s rights.

Yes it really is! Amazing how politicians have been flipping from their stands from 4 years ago. Perhaps they are afraid that the Orange Yeast Infection will lose the election…?

The only “right” women have, in Trump’s America, is the “right” to occasionally wear knee pads.

Fun fact, Jesus never mentioned abortion.

In the system from the book, African Americans were not allowed to be handmaids because they were all sterilized and put to work on the farms.

And yet if that really happened, she’d still be a Trump enthusiast…

The Pence Wing of the party does think that “The Handmaid’s Tale” is a Great Idea.

When I read The Handmaid’s Tale in college in the 80’s, I remember thinking “That could NEVER happen (in our future)”. When I read about the Taliban years later, I thought “Wow, it DID happen, but that could NEVER happen HERE (in America)”. Now I find it chillingly prescient.

Religion, screwing women over since Eve got a taste for fruit.

This is the second political cartoon I’ve seen that brings back the Handmaid trope. We won’t ALL of us end up in that. If the timeline unfolds like it did in the book, many of us will be dead.

COVID is taking care of that part.

The leading contender for filling the gaping hole on the Supreme Court left by the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg is Amy Coney Barrett. While she’s obviously female and obviously conservative, she’s less obviously a super-Catholic, and her ascension to the highest court in the land would move it from a 6-3 split between Catholics and Jews to 7-2. FWIW, according to Wikipedia, Catholics account for 20% of the US population and Jews for 2%. Not represented at all on the Supreme Court are the nation’s 43% Protestants, 26% unaffiliated, 2% Mormons, 1% each Muslims, Buddhists, and Hindus, or 5% “other”. Any sense now of why feminists and liberals are worried sick about the future of Roe v. Wade?

In the book, women are not allowed to read. When the handmaids walk to market, they carry with them pictures of the products they need to pickup. I don’t know how closely the show follows that subplot.
