He would have been in the first lifeboat. With as many sailors who could row for him. No strain for him. Oh and all the coats he could grab.

It must take incredible talent to be SO short sited. And wrong. And mean. And so capable of speaking in word salad. And divisive. And just plain inept.

In Trump’s case, he would have steered the ship into the iceberg and then said someone else was responsible.

America has faced many crises and never panicked, but instead met the crisis head on, and claimed victory. . . so his excuse for lying to the good people of the USA is pure BS!

It is only HIM that is in panic mode as he sees his reign of stupidity in jeopardy.

It was obvious at the time that Dump didn’t want Wall Street to panic and lower their numbers. Dump valued his relectability for more than he valued the lives of the nation. For Dump, winning, HIS winning, is everything.

He takes pride in being a crook. I watched a documentary on the Trump family and he explains how he conned the city and Penn Central when he built Trump Tower. He made a phony document that led each party to think the other had given their approval when neither had. He can be heard laughing while he explains how he did it. I’m so proud to have a con man like him as the leader of my country.

Reminds me of a cartoon I saw back in 1980.

To update, the ship is sinking, Trump is wearing a Napolean-style admiral’s hat and saying “not to change the subject, but did you know Biden is a radical socialist leftist?”

When the theater is on fire, you don’t shout “Fire!” because it’ll start a panic. Nonetheless the theater IS on fire, so you don’t say “Stay in your seats and watch the rest of the show, the fire is very small and it’ll burn itself out by Intermission” either. You say “Please head for the nearest exit quickly and calmly.”

When there’s a great white shark in the water, you don’t show off a blue shark you’ve caught, say “Reports of a great white shark are just a hoax,” and open the beaches on the Fourth of July because it’s good for the economy.

The American people have a right to a president who will tell the truth. And, we have a right to choose to panic. Suppose a woman had panicked on January 31st, when Trump began lying to us. So, she didn’t go to the store where she caught the Trump plague, and stayed home from a party and church, where she passed it on to people who passed it on and etc etc etc. There is no way knowing the truth could have resulted in more deaths, the reverse is true. Trump lied to us to protect only one person— Donald J Trump.

I presumed Trump 1) failed to comprehend the scale of the outbreak or the danger it posed, or 2) that he was unwilling to listen to dire assessments because of the harm he perceived the pandemic would do “his” precious economy.

From Woodward, it seems that he listened and comprehended, and fairly understood the impending danger. Trump just wanted to save us all from . . . panicking?

So Covid panic would not detract from the leftist mob anarchy panic Trump promotes? So Covoid panic would not blot out Antifa busload and planeload panic? So Covid panic would not make us forget the non-white hordes poised to invade our suburbs?

No, Trump is America’s foremost salesman of panic and chaos. Inducing panic, but not succumbing to it.

Unless, maybe he did here. From late January through February he dismissed it, happy talked it and misrepresented it perhaps because he could not wrap himself around it. He froze, and dithered away his best chance improve the nation’s outcomes.

As Bob Woodward put it, not the right man for the job.

Governments all over the world reacted to the virus, some intelligently using science, and some less so. As far as I know, in no countries was there a “panic.” I have a bit of a problem imagining how a “panic” would manifest itself—would there be mass compulsive mask-wearing or social distancing? I suppose that there might be a run on toilet paper, but the US had that anyway.

Here is an interesting tidbit for you. Did you know that the death rate among Corona patients varies widely from state to state? If you take the number of deaths and divide by the number of cases you come up with the basic mortality rate. The US composite total is 2.96%.

Of all the reported cases, 2.96% have died. (We won’t bother with the co-morbity scandal here. That is for another day.)

Let’s look at it state by state for those above the average. Notice anything?

    StateMortality

    USA 2.96%

    Connecticut8.25%

    New Jersey8.07%

    Massachusetts7.38%

    New York6.93%

    New Hampshire5.67%

    Michigan5.62%

    Pennsylvania5.34%

    Rhode Island4.68%

    DC4.22%

    Vermont3.44%

    Louisiana3.32%

    Maryland3.31%

    Delaware3.26%

    Indiana3.25%

    Colorado3.24%

    Illinois3.24%

    Ohio3.22%

    New Mexico3.08%

    Mississippi3.00%

    Maine2.80%
