The only thing we can do is… Draw some comics where we build a giant whosiwhatsit gear so reality will create a widgeybob part for the thingamajig. The only thing computers can do is create Garfield comics and those unfunny sitcom comics.
The “Friends and Family” refers to topsiders who volunteered to become anthros as part of their ongoing study. Amesworth mentioned all of this to Wally on the boat, although it was never made clear who the volunteers were.

I wonder if Duffy’s brother is with these guys. He may not be safe from what can happen to the topsiders;
