My parents had a bird bath. Birds do a lot more than just take a bath and get a drink. They also crap in the bird bath.

“Yeah, well guess what I did in it just before you took your bath.”

Any surface is vulnerable with birds! I see them perch on my chairs on the patio waiting their turn on the feeder and LO and BEHOLD….they leave a “gift” before taking off….

This reminded me of an episode on Friends where two of the men were arguing because one had discovered the other using his toothbrush. . .the punchline was something to the effect of ‘we both use the same soap in the shower and I bet you don’t think about the last place I use it before you use it to wash your face.’

Years ago a friend in college did research on birds dumping on vehicles and his results showed that birds were more likely to dump on yellow cars and trucks. I don’t remember the exact reasoning but it had something to do with how birds see colors — and I don’t remember if it was all birds or certain species. But it impressed me enough that I have never bought a yellow vehicle.

While you took a bath how many other birds were having a good poo? What about that bud? ;)

I often see squirrels jump up on my bird bath for a drink. When I clean it I see all the junk in it, but I guess animals just don’t care, or they discover empirically what’s safe.

Birds are able to bathe in my POOL, due to it being built with a low rock shelf under an inch of water. And they come to bathe there a lot!

Our birdbath/watering hole is a frying pan balanced on top of a WW2 practice bomb shell. Very interesting noise when the raccoons knock it over! :)

One summer when we had a long drought, I turned on the sprinkler and almost immediately a flock of sparrows started hopping around in the spray. “Thank heaven she turned the shower on. I haven’t washed my wingpits in weeks.”
