Also for the drawing room as the old movies used for dramatic entrances. (whatever a drawing room is supposed to be because I never saw a home listed with one)
Those doors must have been lots of fun to repair when the rollers went bad.
I’m enjoying these. The house I was raised in was built about 1939. Two BR, LR and kitchen/dining room, one bath. There were French doors leading from the LR to the master BR.
@CREATOR It would be fun to relive any number of “firsts” that have become a staple of Arlo and Janis. We’ve already seen Janis the sun worshiper and the first poetry. How about some of these others:
When did Janis discover Blondie’s Opaque Bath Salts? I.E., when did Arlo first pester Janis’ soak time.
First appearance at work for each? First allegory? First CIDU? First Ludwig? First bedroom gag? Janis’ first betting strip? First back yard football? …
Our last house we had the sliding glass door to the back deck replaced with French doors. Finally in escrow to sell that house. We’ll miss it, but my wife’s new job made for a crazy commute.
A friend showed me around his new house. Off the master bedroom is the closet area: a collection of three rooms approximately half the size of my entire home.
My favorite example of McMansion-ism is when the Property Brothers stood side-by-side in a hallway, to illustrate that it was too narrow. (Horror of horrors: They were able to touch both walls!) It’s a hallway, for cryin’ out loud. I can easily reach across ours and touch both sides, WITHOUT an identical twin to stand by my side! It’s a route from the living area to the bedrooms, and it works just fine the way it is. Anything wider would be a waste of space, and run up the heating bill.

So, now we discover who planted this notion in people’s heads.

The French doors should lead to the balcony where the hot tub is going.

I like louvre doors for closets better.

Sliding barn doors work on closets up to 16 feet wide. Anything bigger than that you want aircraft hanger doors with electric openers.

Janis’s looks have most definitely improved over the years.

Not quite so absurd as some of the houses I’ve seen advertised around here: 4 BR, 5 BA

Arlo was quite a bit taller than Janis back then.

Today it would be sliding barn doors.

He could run these again with new names and probably no one would know.

Call me crazy (I know you will), but I’m thinking in 35 years of reminiscing there had to be something better than this.

The term McMansion didn’t see print until about 1990 but the concept was kicking around at the time.

The only reason to have a big house is to alude to your superiority over others, ie, to brag/flaunt your wealth.
