Some people will look at this ’toon and think; This is absurd. However, there are people who have called for the removal of the Washington Monument. Rioters have defaced several, that I know of, statues of George Washington. I warned of this a while ago and was told I was being ridiculous and this would never happen.

We’ve pretty much acknowledge all those European colonists that established themselves on this continent were a bunch of privileged bigots as they brought slaves and indentured servants and worked very hard to oppress and eradicate the native population in the name of establishing their own White male dominant law making country. But there is absolutely zero reason for Americans to honor people who betrayed their country to establish their own country to preserve the culture of slave labor and inequality. But yeah Payne clearly thinks there is good reason.
I almost never agree with Hank, but mindless puritanism is growing. There’s a difference between a monument erected in 1880 to remember soldiers that died because their State asked them to defend it from invaders, and one created in 1950 to celebrate white supremacy. Sadly, childish puritans can’t see the difference.
Payne will take the extreme individuals he doesn’t like and say that they are the average of that group, while taking the average of a group he does like and say that they are the extreme of his group, if he acknowledges them at all.
The Washington Monument in Washington D.C. is often seen as a prime example of phallic architecture and American masculinity. If you look at a map, the capitol dome is the head and the monument is his manhood, it is Masonic magic to keep men in power.
Yet another moral dilemma for American society: it started with Bill Cosby and spread into the MeToo movement: how much do you depress the artist’s art to show disapproval of the artist’s actions? What do you think when the music system at the store plays a Michael Jackson song?
Same thing here: is there a relative scale where a person’s achievements are worthy of respect while still acknowledging their transgressions? Surely, Robert E. Lee is harder to accept as a hero compared to Mr. Jefferson, but both were slave owners. Can we ignore Mr. Jefferson’s observations, his achievements, because of this part of his life? Indeed, should we dishonor the Declaration of Independence, because he was the author?
I don’t claim to have answers, but I can at least identify the need to question.

Did Payne mean to make the monument look as if it’s wearing a KKK hood?

Isn’t it amazing that anyone who fights for freedom and liberty is automatically labelled by Payne as being the “Left”?

No one would actually tear down the Washington Monument. It would be renamed.
Something like Liberty’s Watchtower… a place where you can keep an eye on the rascals in government…
