I realize that Bok is often confused by reality, but he must make an extreme effort to reach this level of nonsense. It is as if he has a tilt-a-whirl permanently going at high speed in his head.
Privilege followed by guilt is what white people have now (if they have a conscience). Equality will be here when no one is experiencing privilege, and only guilt when appropriate.
If you don’t mind, please do me a favor and flag Jay EFbee’s above post with that “news” article all about how terrible a person Rayshard Brooks was and how that totally justifies his murder by police.
He’s spamming the same post in other comics comments sections as well.
I tried to leave a post but I found this cartoon so ridiculous on so many levels that I decided to do my post-doctorate thesis on its stupidity. Nice work Bok!
In line with everyone else, this is an absurd comic. Firstly, those who are most privileged generally do not feel privileged. You hear them talk about how they “earned” what they got. And they certainly don’t feel guilt. Awareness of privilege also does not necessitate a sense of guilt — as long as the person aware of their privilege then decides to work for a more just society in which people of color are not targeted by police, by all the Karens of the world, by Banks, by realtors, by employers… guilt is for those who know their privilege and choose to do nothing about it.
When you can jog through a neighborhood without being gunned down would be a start; but you’ll know you achieved true equality when a group of you can walk around heavily armed anywhere you want and it will be applauded as patriotic.
I’m fully aware of my privilege, but I don’t feel any guilt. I don’t know why the conservative mind has this obsessive need to associate guilt with privilege. I want to help make the world a better place because it is the right thing to do.
I worry about the conservative mindset, where they only do the “right thing” because of guilt, or fear (of the law or of going to hell). Do you really have a moral compass in the fist place if you only do right because you are afraid of the consequences if you don’t?
After seeing video of a cop with weapon drawn on five Black teenagers and the neighborhood people yelling at him as to “why?”, “they’re just kids?”, “they ain’t armed?”, “what did they do?”. The White cop’s response: “There are five of them and he’s waiting for backup.”
Turns out the cops were told the kids were armed, fighting in a parking lot, and had tried to steal from a nearby store. One of the kids had a BB gun. Cop at some point said “you shouldn’t have a BB gun. you could get hurt.” Yeah many of us remember Tamir Rice; kid with a BB gun playing in a park when cops shot him within three seconds of exiting their vehicle. Tamir didn’t have a chance to surrender. When 911 calls aren’t filled with exaggerated claims and police stop overreacting on moments like this then maybe I’ll consider we’re getting closer to equality without privilege or guilt.
What would America look like in 2020 if Blacks could mimic Asia Americans ? Abortion, Drugs & Gangs exist across all races. How is it one race comes on top and another in the basement ? I have a idea, Black America got the full help of the Democrats over the last 50 years. Black America is living proof on what being the dems bit@h will get ya, now your culture will be shown live at 5 across fly over country. Take off the training wheels and join in ask the Chinese Americans in California from less than nothing to real success. Japanese Americans stripped of everything but their Dignity fought back to the top. I wonder why Blacks still require so much help ? We have seen how well they have done in Africa look at Zumunda.
Wow! “Conservative” idiots fail to understand that for 100 years after the “official” end of slavery, blacks were being denied basic rights and treated as less than human. And with substandard educational facilities the norm, it is hard to step up when “the man” pushes you back down. And how many southern blacks were able to own the land that they farmed? And what happened when “the man” decided their small successes made them “uppity?” None of that magically vanished in 1965. And “the man” is still doing it with rigging the voting system to keep blacks from voting. Not just in the South, but everywhere Republicans have the majorities to deny the right to vote, like Wisconsin.
Blacks in Africa have done quite well without white men telling them they are subhuman. Not so well before that. And like most other people, they suffer from the greedy p.o.s. in their own people, Same for countries in Asia.
When nobody except history mavens can remember what the whole “race” thing was about. When anybody who sees a couple whose features are completely different is more likely to think “cute couple” than “wonder what (s)he sees in (him)?” When Bok draws this ’toon with the pshrink as a black female and the patient as a white male…

Racist Republicans don’t want equality, they want to be the slave masters.

Let’s see – a White person telling a Black person what racial equality will be like. Hm.
