From 1492, white Europeans with guns have been killing non-white folks, on every continent, and stealing their lands, heritage, and freedoms. White privilege is very old, and tiresome.
It is a question of being loyal to our constitutional democratic republic, — a government conceived to be of the people, by the people, and for the people — versus a radical authoritarian extremist notion. These are the issues that Americans are protesting for: https://i.redd.it/9gnfa8i8u3451.jpg
As a white male myself, I say that is ludicrous. We are all born into a system, and the system is rigged. We are trying to change the system so that it is more just and more equitable for ALL people. The fact is, the system has been rigged based on color for a long long time, and white people, mostly white males, MOSTLY rich white males have been the beneficiaries of it for most of this country’s history. It is wrong and has always been wrong. So, if you don’t want to help change that system, then you are defending it — and frankly, that IS worthy of condemnation.
I can’t say I’ve benefited much from my white privilege, but I don’t deny it exists. But it seems there are people out there, many of them white, who think all white people need to apologize for being white. I won’t be doing that, thanks anyway.
”One time, Atticus said you never really knew a man until you stood in his shoes and walked around in them.”
Americans. Fourteen percent of us look distinctly different from the rest because of the pigment in our skin. American laws have been updated so that technically every one of us has equal opportunity and protection, different looking or not.
The law is one thing, and human nature is another thing.
Does the job opening go to the person who looks a lot like everyone else who works here, or to the one who looks different? We reason that people may steal from us if we don’t keep an eye out, and whom do we watch with particular scrutiny? Those who look different. A good-hearted responsible someone is to marry into our family. If they look somewhat like the rest of the family members, it’s all good. If they look distinctly different, it’s the other thing.
Picture working at or applying for a job where (almost anywhere) you look distinctly different from 6 out of 7 people. If the police, 6 out of 7 who look distinctly different from you, routinely using jargon like “code white” (instead of the common “code brown”) to describe you and your family, what would y͟o͟u͟ do when they routinely shot and choked people who looked like you and yours?
Far too many people don’t care about equality for anyone else besides “their own”. Survival of the fittest, dog eat dog, sucks to be you, along with police themselves having a separate society of their own that considers all private citizens to be clueless outsiders.
American ideals have always insisted that all are created equal. Now we technically have equal justice under law, but not in reality. Walk around for a while in those shoes, the shoes of people who look distinctly different from 86% of other people here. You might be surprised with what you find along the way.
Just when I was beginning to think there was hope for you. Time to get out your American History books and reacquaint yourself with the facts. The “Reconstruction” period is especially interesting.
No, you really are being judged by the content of your character (what you do, what you say, what cartoons you write). the tragedy is that you don’t see that.
If racism is built into the system, then individuals can rely on the system to protect and promote them without doing anything overtly racist themselves. If the banks are red-lining, then the residents don’t have to worry about outsiders moving in. And so on.
It was just the other day Biff and Muffy told me that they didn’t have ANYONE to carry their bags at the country Club with all this protest going on. Oh the Humanity.
Pick a human society, any human society, in any place and at any time in history. If you had a time machine to take you there to observe, you would find that some people have more status and privilege. It may be for any of a variety of reasons – who their family is; how much wealth they have; their religious beliefs; their skin color; some ability they have; how hard they work; their tribe or clan; accidental; anything. Some people in any human society have more / some have less. The difference with American society is we early on openly declared that our goal is equality – not of status, but equality under the law, then more recently equality of opportunity. When we find inequalities in these areas, we strive to correct them. But, despite intentions and efforts, there will always be differences of privilege; in any human social time and place. We just have to keep our value of equality, and keep working toward it.

And yeah you get to be judged if you are still supporting Trump at this point, and if after all the videos of police attacking peaceful protesters you still think it’s just a few bad apples.
who is judging based on the color of their skin? We’re judging based on the murder that was caught on camera.
Well, if that character includes sticking up only for yourself and not trying to make the world a better place for those with a different one, then yes, you should be judged.
I grew up an army brat. My father was an E-6 Sergeant after 27 years and three wars. I was taught to respect everyone, no matter who they were. I didn’t grow up with privileges, but I did grow up with a different type of bigotry. Officers families did not grow up with enlisted families. More than once the “Officer” club would beat us up. No cross dating or any other association. However, I am white and I was drafted during Vietnam. Thanks to the GI Bill, I got a college education and have been able to have a great profession. I worked by tail off to raise myself above the slums my family had to live in when I was a kid. I feel for people of color, but to terrorize neighborhoods and businesses of people that worked hard to have what they have and have it destroyed because a black man was killed. Look at his record and history. He had just tried to pass a counterfeit $20 for cigarettes, which is a federal felony.
Bob’s picked a good time to take a break. His best bud Lisa B has been having a real hard time coming up with much. But then nothing + nothing is still nothing..Maybe he’ll actually have something when he comes back.

Oh gosh, Gorrell, are you implying that white privilege and racism actually exist?
What next, Gorrell, admitting that YOUR GUY lies?
.
Probably not enough for you to admit that YOUR GUY is a traitor, though, huh?

Unquestionably, these last few days have been far worse for white people than what black people have gone through for centuries.
