So Lisa would ignore the brutality and bigotry of the current police hoping that it would go away, just as, dysfunctional government, climate change, gun violence, Covid-19, white privilege, and the national debt did — when they were ignored.
These cops are drawn wrong. They should be helmeted and all black from head to toe with no identification. After all this is America. Land of the free?
Well, their salaries are insanely high, they make many arrests that don’t need to be made, they seem to have tons of free time, they often do clerical work. So maybe they ARE over-budgeted.
When cities cut funds, they NEVER cut the cops, because it’s politically unpopular. The result is that the cops are probably the most bloated single department in any city.
When the police department starts looking and acting like the Mafia.. it’s time to be concerned. But, when the AG Barr and his boss (bunker boy trump) encourage that direction.. it’s called a police state in other countries. Your only out.. if you want it.. is to vote the instigators (from the top down to the dog catcher) out of office.
In the last 8 years there were 2600 excess force complaints lodged against Minneapolis police officers. Only 12 cases resulted in action with the worst being a one week suspension. [NY Times, 4 June, p.A14]
I love how Lisa fails to say Antifa is right-wing slang for Anti-Fascists. The good guys who oppose our born again Mussolini. Like calling the Affordable Care Act, Obama Care when they couldn’t come up with an improved health plan…. ever. Never will.
Lisa, please tell me: if you were in power in Buffalo, what would you do about the group of policemen, who after pushing the elderly man to the ground where he fell and blood poured out of his head, first took a step to help and then stopped themselves and walked away?
Is this Christian action? Is this being a good human? Is this behavior you would want to support? Or would you want to shut it down to find out what the hell is wrong?
Please, use your intelligence, your insight, and your cartooning skills to explain what we should do.
Get rid of the bad cops, them. In my thirty years of military aviation, if I had done my job a third as poorly as the cop in Minnesota, I wouldn’t even been allowed to fly a desk.
Makes as much sense as cutting the budget to shrink government, which is a GOP standard talking point.
Though if you think of cops as apples in a barrel, then you weed out the bad ones to avoid contaminating the ones that are still okay. But if the barrel gets contaminated, you have to just start over with a new barrel… and. you don’t put the possibly contaminated apples into the new barrel until you have individually checked each one for rot. The barrel in this analogy is management (and probably the Union)…
My theory is to require police departments to pay any tort actions against officers for wrongful death or settlements for tort actions due to rights violations out of the Department’s budgets.
“Sorry guys, but your checks are going to be short for several months because Officer Bigot had another racist moment. Nice of all you to stand behind him.”
Please Minneapolis, defund your police department. NYC do likewise. This would be a GREAT experiment on cause and effect – and at the same time so far away from me and my family to not affect us at all. This would be SO MUCH BETTER than having garbage such as this passed by Pelosi and crowd and performing this “experiment” on the whole country!

As opposed to Mitch McConnell, who’s telling states to defund all basic services because he’s preventing the federal government from providing aid.

Actually Lisa, IF the police will not obey the Law, they should be replaced with those who will.
NO ONE is above the Law, not even republican dictators.

I guess Lisa likes the idea of police being weaponized against the citizens of the United States.

The cops needn’t worry. The mayor will just not replace the torched cruisers. That’s defunding enough.

When do cities/gov’t (Dem or Repub) ever cut funds? See Baseline budgeting. See $23 Trillion National Debt.

If you can’t see the soulless depravity in Trump’s brand of racial bigotry, you are a soulless, depraved racial bigot.

Don’t “defund” police, but force them to use those funds to serve, help, defend, and protect the law-abiding people of our country.
And if they don’t or won’t do that, don’t let them be “police”. (Not even “civilian” “security guards”.)
