That’s called a mondegreen from a miss heard song that was “They laid him on the green” heard as “Lady Mondegreen” Now all those “a chicken to ride” “a bathroom on the right” etc. are called modegreens.

LOL! Often the lyrics to a song become whatever you need them to be in that moment!

Even after I look up the words, my mind still hears the song wrong

Wow, I just went and listened to it, and the backup singers are definitely saying “mow the lawn”

And Judas Priest did not sing “Raking the Lawn.”

When I was very young I would sing “Riiiice savoy!” as part of ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’ during the winter holidays.

Diction has rarely been a goal of pop singers.

“Mow the lawn” works too.

Chris Isaak’s ‘San Francisco Days’ is a good album but his standout album, as I suspect most of his fans will attest, is ‘Forever Blue.’
