This is kind of like my brother. He always asked for the wings when our dad brought home the usual three buckets of KFC. (7 kids and before they were popular) After we grew up, I asked why he liked the wings. He said he knew the rest of us would fight over the white meat and drumsticks, and he got all the wings he wanted to eat.
A common theme, I thought I thought it up as a kid. Older siblings/bullies like the usual stuff and steal my “stash,” so we develop eclectic taste, stuff others don’t like, thus nobody else likes my stuff. More for me to enjoy. For me it was any combination of mint and nuts in “sweets” or spicy or pickled “anything” for savory snacks.
