Sorry, Steenz, I gave it a shot. I’ll be on the lookout for Heart of the City classics.

Little callback here already, with Heart, a Cats fan, digging up an Andrew Lloyd Webber article, at “Buzznets,” of all places. (It is interesting to contemplate Webber writing a fluff piece for Buzzfeed, heh.)

Don’t forget. NEVER mention “the Scottish play” by name.

She doesn’t really need to know the history to know the musical Anastasia. In fact, the history kind of ruins it.

Whistling backstage is an actual superstition. In the past, the stage hands would communicate by whistling. Unfortunately, they would also sometimes hear the audience whistling and then mistakes would occur. Thus, whistling has been made taboo for actors and stage hands when they are working a play, even after upgrading to using wireless headsets to communicate.

Acting is like most jobs. You do it because you love it, or you love the idea of doing it. Heart is the second.

I had heard that way back, former sailors were used to as stage crew because they were not afraid of climbing ropes or walking on catwalks way above the stage and they used whistles to communicate with each other. Whistles carry further than shouts. If someone whistled without thought, they could get something dropped from on high.

I’d like a little more delineation between Heart’s friend and Heart’s Mom. A little too similar.

Yowza!!! This throwing of the chips is showing that Heart is an even worse slob than before…

I cringe at eating while doing something else, and my kids knew it right from the very beginning. In our house eating was done only at a table and nowhere else. Now that they have their own kids they know exactly why…so they follow the same rules in their homes…

Backstage superstitions have pretty much been debunked. But there are so many of us who still hold to those traditions. And each theatre has its own way of breaking the jinx. (I know of five different ways to break the jinx associated with the name, Macbeth.)I particularly enjoy debunking the backstage whistling superstition. It follows the nautical source of many theatrical terms.

I don’t get this strip anymore, it’s not even remotely funny. He’s aging Heart too quickly.

I gave it a try, but I gotta say goodbye. The new strip is just not Heart, who was self-involved but lovable, not this preening, insolent brat. And I don’t know who could care about this new puffy, charmless Dean, who used to be the strip’s best character. It’s so different, it needs a new name for the strip and the characters. Adios!
