I actually rowed in the Stotesbury Cup regatta on the Schuylkill in 1973 as #7 in the junior varsity eight of our high school crew club. We weren’t good enough to be a team, but our coach was semi-famous which was why we got the invite. We bombed out in the trial heats on Friday afternoon, so while everyone else had to get to bed early for the races on Saturday morning, we partied and did the town.

My Schuylkill County in-laws pronounced it “skook’l”

Ha! I love Shark’s pronunciation – that’s just how a lot of people pronounced the river’s name. It brings back memories. :-D

Thanks, Robb, for a great rendering of Boathouse Row (although there is no real Deerwood Academy Boathouse).

Laurel Hill Cemetery, where I volunteer as a guide, is located along the Schuylkill River. It is a GREAT place to watch rowing competitions.I once had to lead a tour during the Dad Vail Regatta. It was interesting, trying to be heard over the coxswain’s bullhorns.

I know the Sunday strips are always separate, but it would be nice if the Sunday strip didn’t directly contradict what’s going on in the daily story in a semi-serialized strip like this, because it’s a bit confusing for readers of both.

I find it weird that he doesn’t still call him dad. It hasn’t been that long since he lived with Sharcane.

It’s pronounced “schoolkill,” but it’s spelled “Schuylkill.”

Well, it’s nice that Kenny still writes to his birth father, even if he’s not sure how to address him. He sees Delray as his new father now.

It’s even better that Sharcane turned himself in. Once Lynn Chang made her move on the prison, it was safe for him to go back. Let’s hope it’s safer where he is now.
