For me it was looking out for ants…and then watching as they carried the crumbs…and following them as they brought them back to their hill…and once when I was very lucky, a group of red ants attacked the group of black ants. Didn’t get much eating done that day.
Friends hiking in Montana saw several grizzlies at a distance, came around a curve in the trail and saw a lone hiker getting ready to eat her lunch. After they warned her about the bears she assured them she was safe as she had brought along “bear bells”
Andrew Sleeth is on the right track. There is a PERFECT way for a pretty young woman to get her boyfriend to relax at a picnic. The blanket has to be big enough for her to hide under, though, and there shouldn’t be any people close enough to tell what’s going on under the blanket.
At more than one place, I’ve seen grackles landing on outdoor restaurant tables to steal packets of sugar. Some open and eat them right there, others carry them away to consume off-premises.

Perhaps if you focus on your fetching friend there, your anxieties will get distracted by other primal feelings.
