So does my daughter! I’d work on a house costume for when she needs to go out, but she says wearing a mask at all times works just fine.

In my mother’s case, it was so her mother had a name to call her. Mother’s father entered an old girlfriends name as my mom’s first name. She didn’t find out what her first until she joined the Navy during WWII. Was quite a surprise.

That’s why I wear mine. That, and I can mumble rude things at the grocery store without being found out.
Not a teenager, she was about eight, but almost a quarter of a century later, she still remembers and I still remind her.
