Never let it be said that the GOP won’t take an opportunity to use a tragedy to ram through something that’ll kill us but will make a donor a few more bucks.
The impeachment process distracted the GOP from governing and preparing for the pandemic, but it isn’t stopping them from rolling back EPA regulations.
trump (and friends) don’t want the opposition to be wasting valuable time looking back.. but it seems, they.. have lots of time to “adjust” things in their favor.
“No one in this world, so far as I know — and I have searched the records for years, and employed agents to help me — has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby.” H.L. Mencken.
There are some pretty straightforward things we can do.
1. More aggressive enforcement of false advertising, notably of Fox “News” which has itself admitted that it runs only four hours of actual news out of 24 – I’d love to see them forced to rebrand themselves…
2. Accurate headlines:
- “Fauci’s facts shut down by lying politician who owns stock in hydroxychloroquine company” (just heard that today…of course)
Re panel 4: Tammany Hall soldier George Washington Plunkitt explained how he profited from politics in a magazine profile. “Honest graft, I seen my opportunity and I took it.” He did well in real estate.
Like a pandemic, idiocy spreads and infects exponentially. We can only hope that, like with many other viruses, people who survive the infection develop immunities that will make them less susceptible to future idiocies – particularly those spread from the same sources…
Dems were absolutely horrifying because they wanted to add things like protecting voting (look at Wisconsin primary today), wanted to add environmental strings to money given to airlines, and they wanted to add oversight to the slush fund for businesses (and Trump fired who should have been in charge).
On the flip side, I never understood why the Kennedy Center should get money (was that a Dem request? Melania is on the board and Trump says he wants to see “Romeo and Juliet”). Then they laid off 250 workers while violating their contract, and they let 700 part-time workers go.
Republicans HAVE to lie and cheat in any way they can. When people are given a choice of two statements on issues that actually affect their everyday life, one that describes the Republican position and the other the Democrat’s, the Democratic position is chosen by about 80% of Democrats and Independents. No surprise there. The weird part is that just under half of Republicans also choose Democrat positions, unless they are told which position is supported by each party. Then they fall into line and choose the Republican option- 78% of the time. So, it is entirely reasonable for Republicans to lie a lot. The people running the Republican party are in that half of the Republicans who actually believe in Republican positions. They are roughly 25% of the voting public. They have no chance of ever winning a national election unless they keep as many people as possible from voting and keep the rest of them confused enough to vote against their own best interests.
I have yet to see on any electronic media any reportage on that issue illustrated in the last panel. It’s a bait and switch and the Cable outlets are ignoring it because it’s easy to spend an hour ripping the admin’s laxity on the virus while ignoring the earth raping going on.

Super spreaders include lots of ordinary folk who are still congregating in large numbers. Stupidity isn’t restricted to MAGAts.

There needs to be a way to do more than just ‘like" this. There is voting. But that isn’t until Nov.

Its the south and the heartland that are lighting up with new cases of Covid.
They aren’t paying attention.
Most of the right wingers don’t test so they can under report the number of cases.
Republicans lie cheat and steal at every turn.

It’s clear that Gops claiming that Dems “never let a crisis go to waste” are projecting once again. Projection is their tell.
