and that’s how it goes

John’s response is interpreted by Elizabeth as a lecture, but it seems to me a lot more like a defensive reaction to her question. Longtime readers know that we never see John doing laundry. He leaves it for Elly to do. If Fiona had actually helped out with the baby as John had planned, then Elly could do the laundry instead of John. Everything John is lecturing Elizabeth about is something that John could stand to hear himself.

I can’t think of anyone who LOVES doing laundry, Lizzie.

My wife says that about sweeping the floor too. So she sweeps the floor. And ,to me anyway, it looks just the same.

Maxine said it best: It’s time to do some stuff around the house; sit around it… walk around it… lie around it.

If I think it is time to clean something up, I clean it up. My wife does the same. If it’s a big project we collaborate. Somehow it just isn’t a big deal.

That is actually true! Talking “at” someone does make whatever boring task you’re doing seem a little better.

What’s with all the male bashing in the “comics” today?

I hope he’s not folding the dirty laundry…

I tried folding the laundry until I got to my girl fiends stuff. (Yeah, I spelled that right.) Never try to fold a bra.

It’s also called your mother told me to do it!

Actually, I think it’s called taking initiative. And being part of the family. Housework is definitely no fun, but at least when everyone’s in it together it helps.

so when are the ladies going to find out who the apartment was really for?

She would have been folding it if dad was on his game

He wouldn’t be so cavalier about folding laundry if it included fitted sheets!

He sounds like he is angry and huffy, and that doing laundry is some punishment. Sends a message that household responsibilities are something adverse.

In our house we call it a “social occasion” and we all pitch in. Somehow sharing the work makes even boring tasks less boring.

Probably John has found out the most difficult part of the laundry is moving the model train set he set up in the laundry room out of the way.

So that’s it? That’s the end of the apartment storyline? :(

When I lived in Hollywood – we liked doing laundry. The laundrimat was also a bar.
