To all of you tree-huggers: It’s only a tree. Despite the artistic license of the creator of this comic, trees are not sentient. Sure, carving into a tree could harm it, but no more than stubbing a toe will harm a person. Yea, it hurts at the time (or the tree equivalent), but that in itself isn’t going to kill you (or the tree).
In The Hidden Life of Trees, Peter Wohlleben shares his deep love of woods and forests and explains the amazing processes of life, death, and regeneration he has observed in the woodland and the amazing scientific processes behind the wonders of which we are blissfully unaware. The Hidden Life of Trees draws on ground-breaking scientific discoveries to describe how trees are like human families: tree parents live together with their children, they communicate with them, support them as they grow, share nutrients with those who are sick or struggling, and even warn each other of impending dangers.

You want to do carving? Go get tattoos instead and leave the tree alone.

It’s an Ent! I’d be surprised if it didn’t draw a root up out of the ground to kick them both in their @rses!
