“As the largest known protein, titin also has the longest IUPAC name of a protein. The full chemical name of the human canonical form of titin, which starts methionyl… and ends …isoleucine, contains 189,819 letters and is sometimes stated to be the longest word in the English language, or of any language. However, lexicographers regard generic names of chemical compounds as verbal formulae rather than English words.”
Right or wrong, my wife won’t buy GS cookies from anyone who is not a real girlscout in uniform – this means she won’t buy them from the mothers who are selling them from a cardboard table outside of the grocery store. Since the girls get credit for their sales, she thinks it is sending the wrong message to the girls who have their parents selling the cookies, and works against the real girlscouts who are out and about on their own.
That long word was probably invented by Johann Gambolputty de von Ausfern-schplenden-schlitter-crasscrenbon-fried-digger-dingle-dangle-dongle-dungle-burstein-von-knacker-thrasher-apple-banger-horowitz-ticolensic-grander-knotty-spelltinkle-grandlich-grumblemeyer-spelterwasser-kurstlich-himbleeisen-bahnwagen-gutenabend-bitte-ein-nürnburger-bratwustle-gerspurten-mitz-weimache-luber-hundsfut-gumberaber-shönedanker-kalbsfleisch-mittler-aucher von Hautkopft of Ulm… ☺
Who has the time or patience to create a name of ANYTHING 189,819 letters long?!!! Were they going for the Guiness Book of World Records? Then again, I don’t know the naming conventions for chemical names. Still seems a little exorbitant.

Ronnie was around when they invented cookies. Before that, they just put chocolate chips on rocks and bark.
