Carol is there and Connie is there and the ambulance is called and the doctor is on the phone and it looks like Elly is pushing and then after all that, Michael finally takes the time to call his father. Oh, John, I think this tells us pretty well where you rank. After all, you are only the father.

As for John, why would he jump out in front of a passing policeman instead of trying to drive his own car to get home? Does he have a death wish? What if the policeman can’t hit his brakes in time? Why does he think a policeman is like a cab service?

Actually, that would be the best way I could think of to get home in those conditions!

While everyone else is solving all the apparent problems, I’m wondering why and how John is sitting in the front seat of the police car. I don’t think that’s normal procedure, it’s unsafe, and there’s often not enough room because of various equipment. (Yeah, I know it’s just a comic.)

Police have no sense of humor in an emergency. Sarcasm doesn’t go very far either.

Many years ago I was on an ambulance crew. I delivered a baby one time in the bathroom between the toilet and bathtub. One of our guys delivered one in the elevator on the way up to the maternity ward.

Just what every woman wants-the entire neighborhood with her as she delivers her baby. Keep the 2 women on deck and banish everyone else to the basement.

One thing I found about my time in public safety work. The baby will come and mom will do most of the work. The rest of us are; for the most part, bystanders.

My second child was born at home. The hospital kicked me out the day before because “nothing’s happening.” More like, “it’s not happening fast enough for us. Go do your labour at home and come back later.” My doctor was not impressed. Luckily, nothing went wrong and the ambulance got there in time to deliver the baby, THEN we went for a leisurely ride to the hospital. My poor husband was a total wreck. I was fine – just a little angry at that point.
