I don’t think Trump is trying to start a war here. I think the only people left to advise him are “yes men” and the reactionary incompetents that are left in his administration (and maybe Putin). That’s pretty scary.

Yeah two Administrations (Bush and Obama) used the AUMF to conduct unilateral actions via drone strikes against “terrorist targets” or “non-state actors”. Obama overwhelmingly used it but he didn’t use it to go after “state actors” like Syria; he actually did what Constitutional law required and asked Congress for permission. Not Heir Trump; nope, his warhawk staff convinced him that he can act first and never apologize later. First was the missile strike on Syrian airbase and now the drone strike of an Iranian military leader and government official. Lets remember how WWI was ignited from an assassination that was preceded by political aggression between nations.

Thank you, Georgie (Dick, Condi and Rummy too) for rushing into Iraq, destabilizing the whole area and keeping a lot of American soldiers in amongst a hostile population (Ever hear of Vietnam?) . How much has it cost us so far?

But even Obama generally (with the exception of Bin Laden) consults with the host (ally) country before a strike would take place.

Even before AUMF, presidents have been sending troops into harm’s way without a resolution. All they had to do was call it something other than “war”.

Try the Tonkin Gulf Resolution for dust; it hasn’t been used in 45 years.
