Is that supposed to be Bernie? Sanders is not a “hard core leftist”. Real hard-core-leftists are delusional. Bernie is progressive (sometimes to a fault) but not delusional. Who is the woman supposed to be?
That’s kind of the evolution I have done since the rise of the Tea Party. Though I recognize the many flaws of left as well as the right. It’s socially tricky these days not being an ideologue.
All the republicans will have do is show clips of Sanders spending his honeymoon in the USSR (maybe to the tune of Back In the USSR) and ask is he really a democratic socialist or a communist; after all their were plenty of democratic socialist countries he could have visited instead. BTW I having been voting Democratic since McGovern.
Bernie also makes promises he can’t possible keep. Free healthcare and free college for all are no different from having Mexico pay for a wall. But hey, a cult’s never reality based.
Of course the media keeps pushing Warren over Sanders. Sanders’s policies be detrimental to the profits of corporations who own the mainstream media outlets and fund a large number of “independent” media outlets. Warren isn’t interested in actually fighting for the benefit of voters over corporate interests, and the corporate media knows it. She was pushing watered down versions of Sanders’s policies until Buttigieg started challenging her poll numbers thanks to his corporate lobbyist fueled ad buy. Then she started pushing a modified version of Buttigieg’s Medicare for Some plan. She’ll back down the moment she’s challenged by the center and right wing, just like Obama did.
I voted for Bernie in the primary in 2016 because I thought he would push good ideas into play, which he did. However, he does not deal well with people as a leader. To quote from de Waal’s’ description of leadership in a chimp colony, "The successful alpha males in a chimp colony protect the underdog, keep the peace, and reassure those who are distressed… This alpha male acts as healer in chief, comforting others in agony more than anyone else in the community. As soon as a fight erupts among its members, everyone turns to him to see how he is going to handle it. He is the final arbiter, intent on restoring harmony” From “Mama’s Last Hug”, pages 175-6 by Frans de Waal
This kind of leadership is more important than ideological purity IMO, because it is more inclusive and more sensitive to alternative possibilities, while still putting the importance on the members of the group.
People who change show they can learn and be flexible in their thinking, those who adopt one way of thinking and never alter that view prove themselves to be unable to learn from current conditions and adapt to new and unique situations. Just as Trump can’t be anything but a five year old in a seventy year old body, Sanders can’t be anything but the hard uncompromising “democratic socialist” neither is pragmatic enough to see the world around them and modify their views to existing conditions, a basic requirement of a good leader.

I’ll be happy to vote for either of them. But to be fair, it’s partly about how well the candidates play the media game. She plays it very well.

Actually, Bernie’s ahead right now, possibly because of her backsliding lately on issues like universal healthcare.

In some ways I can truly relate to this comic strip…. See my “reply” to Ken Catalino’s Jan 3rd comic strip at the bottom of the “comments section”.
