In my parents’ congregation (I attend my own), there is a guy who — as a hobby — makes strap-on wooden bow ties; Dad and I each have one.

Just grow a ZZ Top beard…

I remember snapping them on. Being a slow learner who didn’t learn to tie his shoes till 10, I found no one with the patience to teach me bow-tie. A decade later, I had a fellow Engineer co-worker who wore them his whole career.

She’s lucky that Earl’s a) Going to church with her and b) Taking the trouble to get dressed up with a tie.

I hate ties of any kind and haven’t worn that useless piece of obsolete men’s fashion for years. I have collarless dress shirts that require no neckwear – in fact, I wore one this morning, accompanying my wife to church.
