I’m no botanist nor gardener, but what happens to a planet if you water it with vinegar? will the plant wither?

Strange, I’ve never heard of doing that - I suppose it just might work.

For decades, our various cats loved going to the “forest pool” for a drink. They seemed to appreciate the jungle water better than their regular source, and we encouraged it.

With all the vinegar bowls around it might be hard to water the tree!

And now we know the origin of this strip’s title.

Once we got an artificial tree we didn’t have to worry about it. But even when we had real ones we’d yell if the cats or dog tried to drink. Not getting the cats to not climb in the tree was a different story.

A very simple solution is to drape a tree skirt around the base of the tree and over the tree’s water bowl. Out of sight, out of mind. The pets won’t bother it if it’s covered.

For folks with pets and real Christmas trees, there’s a great training spray available at pet stores called Grannick’s Bitter Apple The spray is available for both dogs and cats. This spray has saved more than one Christmas tree of mine!

BTW You can’t smell it but the dogs and cats can and they hate it! Won’t stain furniture and is inexpensive.

okay, this is a stretch, but this reminds me of my dad putting Fingerhut vinyl covers on the seats in the Chrysler. Yeah, kept the upholstery clean but… yuck

Wouldn’t it make more sense to put out a couple of bowls of water for the animals to drink from.

Double-sided sticky tape works very nicely, though the cat will just hop over it unless you put out a lot. So does slightly crinkled aluminum foil, and it’s pretty too.
