Naming tropical storms and hurricanes makes a certain amount of sense, but naming strong inland storm fronts doesn’t. I guess it makes the Weather Channel happy, though.
Way out here, we have a name for wind and rain and fIre.The wind is Wind, the rain is Rain, and we call the fire Fire. I think you could write a really neat song with that theme.
Tornadoes aren’t named either though some of them are in the small hurricane range. Tornadoes a mile + wide are true monsters of storm. And Hurricanes themselves create tornatoes like the multi-headed hydra.
Wish they DIDN’T name hurricanes with the names of people; it makes newcomers to hurricane alley feel as if they aren’t really something to worry about. One of the most destructive storms in Florida history was ‘Andrew’; who would think of an Andrew as a tough guy?
