No one said it was her fault. By her asking that question she is stating clearly where the fault lies. Someone who is truly not oppositional would say, “What can we do so that the two of us get along better?”

My mother was like that. Took me years of therapy to learn to be different.

I have not heard very many people use the word “oppositional”. My spell check does not even recognize it as a word.
