I hope that the people who are most affected start to realize that this president could not care less about them or the livelihood of this country. This next election, party lines shouldn’t matter, it should be voting one’s conscience. If you care about EVERYONE succeeding, not just the rich, then you can’t vote orange guilt free. If anyone is still stuck in the “trump really wants what’s best for me” and votes orange, then they will be supporting the demise of the USA…

Will rural America ever figure out that Trump has played them for fools? He’s a large scale grifter, a liar and a con man. Trump is a proven professional liar but somehow he only tells the trumpsters the truth? Really?

The American farmer has lost his Chinese market Trump’s trade war has caused China to go to Canada for it’s wheat, Brazil for it’s soy beans and elsewhere for it’s corn.

One of the first news items after Trump announced the start of his trade war with China was that the Chinese “Central Committee” announced the redirecting of its farmers to expand their soybean acreage by 3,000,000 acres.

American farmers have essentially lost the Chinese market, one of the largest in the world, all because Donnie John thought trade wars were easy to win!

(a note to farmers, that “subsidy” Trump arranged for you to receive to ameliorate the effects of Trump’s stupidity won’t exist for ever and it’s really nothing less than “welfare” which puts YOU at the same level with all those “welfare queens from the inner cities” Republicans are always complaining about.)

The farmers are getting exactly what they voted for, aren’t they?

“For months, farmers have remained resolute, continuing to pledge support to a president who says his trade policies will help the agricultural industry win in the end. (https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/farmers-frustration-with-trump-grows-as-u-s-escalates-china-fight/ar-AAGonWq)

So they should “Accept the pain,” according to Lindsey Graham. (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/lindsey-graham-accept-the-pain-of-the-us-china-trade-war/ar-AAGjfOE)

I can’t say I feel sorry for any farmer that supported Trump and is experiencing hardship. Especially since many like one I heard on the radio this morning, sadly from my own state, said she and her family were more than willing to suffer if it means winning the trade war. That she and the others can’t grasp that no matter what their idol says there is no winning in a trade war, at best one side gets hurt a little less than the other and that side won’t be the US.

Farmers who still plan on voting for trump, remember to wear your MAGA hat at your multi-generational family farm foreclosure sale.

And now he’s taking FEMA emergency funds in hurricane season to fund detention centers. Somebody ought tell him that in the old west when they wanted to clean up the town (and not add more scum to the swamp) they did not, repeat not!, say “There’s a new tarrif in town.”

16 Aug: During a taping of Iowa Public Television’s “Iowa Press” program Friday, Grassley responded: “Trump screwed us. President Donald Trump promised farmers , who largely supported him in the 2016 election, he would support them.”

Trump does everything to benefit corporations over people. Killing off the small farmer will only benefit corporate agriculture. Starve them out, then buy them up. All is going to plan….

I worry that too much emphasis is concerned about the resident’s election and not enough about the underlying issue that allowed his presidency and his continued support from the farmers who are willing to endure pain because they feel that someone is finally listening. I don’t like citing a left of center source, but I feel this issue has been neglected too long.

    " …

There was a time in the very recent past when many on the left were confident that an era of Democratic dominance was just around the corner, the inevitable result of a “rising electorate” of younger, better educated, and more diverse voters. The midterms were a wake-up call. The rising electorate may be swinging left, but there has been an equal reaction among older and less educated whites—and they represent a lot more of the political map. Without doing much better among voters outside of metro areas, Democrats have little hope of regaining the Senate for years, maybe decades, to come, and may even continue to lose the Electoral College despite winning the popular vote.

    …"

Generally, I agree with the < you got what you voted for> sentiment, but not here. Farmers voted for help. They still need help. The trade issue is still valid to them, but Trumps incompetence has turned it against them. So, no, they don’t “deserve” this. They voted for the one who said/promised to help them. The Russians/Trump lied, people believed it, Trump won. Blaming someone who has been suckered is not the way to leadership. .01²¢ -gnome

The Democrats have picked up the college educated whites that have been a stalwart of Republican voting rolls for decades. The Republicans have a very small minority. Mostly lower educated whites, most of the White Evangelicals and others backed by several white billionaires. Many hard liners who see certain areas of science as having a political leaning! And the remedies for AGW they see as liberal in character.

Trump may WANT the small farms to fail so that giant agri-business has a monopoly. Monsanto will weather this storm. It’s the independent farmer who will go under.
