    Huh, I thought fire ants were a southern thing. I didn’t know they had a verity that went all the way up to Canada. I suddenly pictured little red ants wearing sweaters complaining about the lack of heat.

    He didn’t necessarily say it was at home! They supposedly get up to here, in Tennessee, but I’ve never seen them. I did have a similar encounter in Florida, though..

    I was introduced to fire ants when I worked in South Carolina for several years. You had to watch where you were standing when working outside. They will swarm up your legs en masse if you’re too close to their hill.

    There are fire ants in Maine, a different kind from the ones in the South, but they are aggressive and they do sting.

    Except…. fire ants haven’t yet made it to the northeast coast. Give ’em a few more years under current climate conditions.
