    From Urban Dictionary:

    Hot Bunk

Term derived from the US Navy. When three sailors that work different shifts are required share a bed, each getting its use for an eight hour shift. Thus the bed (bunk) is always in use, always warm. i.e. hot bunk.

Arlo, you didn’t push Ludwig off when you went to bed, did you? If so, that is an unforgivable breach of the master/slave conventions.

If I’m not using them, my pillows are propped up against the headboard, so the dogs can’t sleep on them. We also have seven dog beds, for three dogs.

Used to call it “hot cot” in the Army. Two soldiers on opposite shifts (days and nights) would share one cot. Usually we would roll up one sleeping bag (into a pillow) and use the other to sleep in. After the shift, the other one would reverse and use your sleeping bag as the “pillow.”

We may miss something, but this is one reason, among others, that our cats must stay outdoors.

Until Luddie’s gone. Then you’ll miss it for a very, very long time.
