When the incidental lip service given to protecting children in the U.S. becomes more of a priority than the fake blanket of the 2nd Amendment plus the profits being accrued by those making/selling guns and ammo. In other words, not for a very long time.
Marty, this is beautifully done. I wish it weren’t so true, but you nailed it. The people who are allowing this to happen are the same people who are (and have always been) engineering the betrayal of everyone who isn’t like them and enabling the rape and murder of the planet. I wish it weren’t so true.
It would be nice to know. Unfortunately, the National Rifle Association’s lobbying efforts have effectively blocked any attempts at getting a grasp on numbers.
Collateral damage folk.. the price you are willing to pay for the daft interpretation of the 2nd amendment. Asking how many children must die.. sadly, lots.
2nd Amendment: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
I FULLY support the 2nd Amendment. ALL OF IT.
A ‘militia’ includes all able-bodied civilians.
WELL REGULATED.
Forget the unreasonable NRA, what part of ‘well regulated’ eludes lawmakers and the courts? Background checks, paid for by the applicant – not tax dollars. Age and health restrictions. Severe penalties for violations.
And I’d think there are more that can be done to preserve our right to bear arms while preserving our rights to ‘life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness’.
Since it seems we can’t stop this sort of thing, I will hope and pray that the next batch are children and grandchildren of NRA and GOP ammosexuals. Maybe that will get them thinking.
The Second Amendment says that the Feds cannot disarm state militias, whose primary functions were catching slaves and fighting Native Americans. Well, there was the Whiskey Rebellion, where President Washington Federalized the Pennsylvania militia and rode out at their head to put it down, the only sitting President ever to take the field in prospective combat. (The rebels melted away into the hills, so there was in fact no shooting.)
We no longer have such state militias. We have the various state National Guards for the common defense. If you qualify, you can go and BEAR arms up to and including tanks and fighter jets, and KEEP them at National Guard armories and airfields.
For those who think that the idea of school shootings is a recent tragedy of American life, I’d remind people of the 1984 movie ‘Johnny Dangerously’. Joe Piscopo’s character, Danny Vermin, showed his .88 Magnum and his line was “It shoots through schools.” Humor, 1980s style. We’ve had sick people here for a long time. You’d think we would have solved the issue by now.

Far far more that a caring, sensible, reasonable populace would or should allow. Isn’t it a shame that you even have to ask the question?

Red rain is coming down
Red rain
Red rain is pouring down
Pouring down all over kids
They are standing at the water’s edge in their dreams
They cannot make a single sound as she screams
It can’t be that cold, the ground is still warm to touch
Hey, bullet’s touch
This place is so quiet, sensing that storm
Red rain is coming down
Red rain
Red rain is pouring down
Pouring down all over them
Well it’s been buried in a sheltered place in this town
They tell you that this rain can sting and look down
There is no blood around, see no sign of pain
Hey, no pain
Seeing no red at all, see no rain
Red rain is coming down
Red rain
Red rain is pouring down
Pouring down all over them
Red rain
Oh! Oh!
Putting the pressure on much harder now
To return again and again
Red rain
Just let the red rain splash you
Let the rain fall on your skin
Red rain
You came to school, defenses down
With the trust of a child
Oh!
Red rain coming down
Red rain
Red rain is pouring down
Pouring down all over them
And we can’t hide any more
No more denial
It’s so hard to lay down in all of this
Red rain coming down
Red rain is pouring down
Red rain is coming down all over them
We see it
Red rain coming down
Red rain is pouring down
Red rain is coming down all over them
We’re bathing in
Red rain coming down
Red rain is coming down
Red rain is coming down all over them
She’s begging you
Red rain coming down
Red rain coming down
Over them in a red, red sea
Over kids
Over kids
Red rain

As long as the NRA is taking foreign money, and money from gun manufacturers, and using it to buy members of "Con"gress, it will never change!

Republicans get bribes from the NRA, they will do nothing to stop school murders since they let the ban on semi automatic weapons die.
People need to stop voting for Republicans if they want any change.

At the rate we seem to be going (slightly hyperbolic, I know), there won’t be left a single little child to lead them.
