Snopes.com employees are all working plenty of overtime now, so there’s that. Maybe 60 million Trump voters are OK with their president and all of his people lying all of the time, but the rest of us can’t abide by it. We all lie a little, but the truth ain’t in this administration.
Conservative pundit David Brooks: “Centuries ago our founders created a system of laws and not men. In our system of government, there are procedures in place based on certain values—impartiality, respect for institutions, the idea that a public office is a public trust, not a private bauble. When Trump appears in the Mueller Report, he is often running roughshod over these systems and violating these values. He aks his FBI director to take the heat off his allies. He tries to get the relevant investigators fired. I don’t know if his actions meet the legal standard of obstruction of justice, but they certainly meet the commonsense standard of INTERFERENCE with justice.”
If the Lord God Almighty told Li’l Donnie: “I’m going to ask you one question. Doesn’t matter what it is. If you lie, you will immediately die and go to hell. If you tell the truth, you will live out your normal life span.” Then He would ask the question. And the safest bet in the history of the world would be that Trump would lie!
No surprises, really; according to The Washington Post, #45 is up to 9,451 lies as of today, the 801st day of his administration. That’s 11.8 public, recorded lies per day.
Man, remember when Politifact was doing the Obameter to track all his promises to see how he did? (Almost three-quarters kept or compromised, for the record: https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/obameter/) Those halcyon days!
Now we’re tracking the lies of #45. It’s pretty dramatically different from his predecessor. Politifact has the following findings:
- Mostly false, false, or Pants on Fire: 24% (the last, the most outrageous sort of lie, accounts for a mere 1% – 9 out of 599 statements recorded.
By contrast, Trump: https://www.politifact.com/personalities/donald-trump/
- True or mostly true: 15%
- Half true: 14%
- Mostly false, false, or Pants on Fire: 70%
- Pants on Fire lies separately accounts for a full 15% of statements (99 out of 663).
It’s interesting to note that #45 already has more statements on record here than Obama did in eight years, truly, evidence of the Icelandic saying “better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and prove it.” (Hávamál, for those who are curious.
There’s no way water will put out those fires, we’ll need dynamite, time to call International Well Control or maybe Wild Well Control. I would say we would need Red Adair except he’s dead.

The last time Washington D.C. was burned this badly was at the conclusion of the War of 1812.
