    Leaves are tricky. And they have 5 months or so to plot how to scare the bejeebers out of their tree.

    Leaves are tree lungs. I suppose if our lungs popped out of our bodies every spring we would get a little twitchy too.

    It probably should freak you out when it’s popping out of a part of the branch that would not normally grow leaves. If one actually looks at a tree, as Mr. Hart clearly has not done, you will notice that leaves grow at the end of branches almost all the time.

    We had to cut down our live oak of some 75 years, and were devastated. We planted NEW oak, though, and it’s ADORABLE. It’s about six feet high now and just put out its FIRST set of leaves. They’re so young and spring green. I feel like a new mama. . .
