The beginning of ‘doom and gloom’ reporting, with NO basis in fact, just pure conjecture, a method of news delivery that today’s sensationalist driven media has developed into an science.
Well, so either things will go well or they will go poorly. I suppose if the news reported what happened and did not try to make predictions the world would be a more boring place.
Or they are so generic and irrelevant no one wants to waste time on them. Sure the earth could be hit by an asteroid sometime but so what? I can’t do anything about it. I have better things to worry about. Things I can actually do something about.

Reasons I don’t watch the “news” anymore. Reuters, maybe BBC but after that more about making than reporting.

The question you must ask yourself is, not if I can survive the volcano. But rather can I survive the panic caused by, the bad reporting???

According to 21st century news mongers, asteroids are almost as likely.
