In the comic, adults DID speak normally, but they were mostly on TV. CB’s father openly spoke once, with actual text, but off panel. He was playing with Snoopy during his birthday.
The wah-wah was just one of the ways the TV cartoons debased and desecrated the newspaper comics. Enough of Schulz’s genius survived that unfortunate generations still got hooked on the TV versions, but it’s too bad TV didn’t get Peanuts 100% or even 80% right.

He must have bad hearing, because on TV, the adults “talking” was done with a mute, and this trombone doesn’t have one.

You are hearing adults talking, Charlie Brown, especially when it’s about politics or religion.

I have trombone vision. I have to move the copy backward and forward until I can read the text.

That sounds like the news coming out of DC nowadays. I can wish. It would make more sense.

That was deep, Jeff – I had to think about that one for a while. Good work!

@ i_am first comment: They didn’t use the mute because they were shouting.

Looks as if Charlie Brown has a 5:00 shadow.
