She’s right. Most nice things can be replaced, but nice people can’t!

It’s only when we go through the difficult times that we realize what is important.

These are older reprints, right? Why don’t they have separate beds like Lucy and Ricky?

Lovely sentiments for an upscale standard suburban family, but Not completely true. You lost your false sense of security. You aren’t protected all the time. Next time, the burglars could break in while you’re at home. Plan for dangers like this and be ready to react and to protect your family. Live for the best, but plan for the worst.

Mom’s right. Sometimes it takes some hardships to remind us of that.

It does feel like people care about belongings most of the time. People need to open up their eyes.

The problem lies in the way people gauge Human value based on all the things we own instead of the quality of our character.

Since disasters have been mentioned, I want to share a recommendation. It’s called The 15 Minute List. Make a list of what you must take with you if you’re given 15 minutes to evacuate. I talked to a retired couple who had to evacuate and forgot the husband’s vitally important medications plus other things like insurance papers. They were lucky as the disaster missed them but their blunder haunted them for years. The list should be on paper and everyone should know where it is because in a crisis, it’s hard to think and it’s good to look at a list. Also, if you don’t happen to all be at home, where will you meet? All the things like that for peace of mind. So many disasters are not a case of If but When. Okay, return to the comic.

Years ago a group of us were on an overnight work project downtown. When we went to our car just before dawn it looked like it had snowed overnight, but it was the glass from all but one window in the car broken out. Someone hadn’t liked the way we were parked. I looked over my shoulder the whole way home, just sure that the vandal was following us. Sense of security: GONE.
