People pick on dinosaurs. They were successful for hundreds of millions of years. Humans have been successful for about 200,000 years. It wasn’t the dinosaurs’ fault that they went extinct. It is quite possible that it will be our fault that we go extinct. It makes you wonder which is more intelligent.

Intelligence isn’t a prerequisite for surviving. We can do many unnatural things. Including, unfortunately, being able to ignore Nature and we do so at our current peril.

He missed the meteor shower intentionally after having seen Day of the Triffids (1962) on TV earlier in the evening.

To be fair, getting wiped out by a meteor wasn’t likely the day it happened to the dinosaurs either, but it happened anyway. Unlikely things happen all the time, just not usually that dramatically.
