For years Steve King (the politician, far scarier than Stephen King the writer of horror thrillers whose terror at least resides only in fiction) has engaged in racist language that was at least coded, and supported policies that harmed anyone not of northern European descent while claiming to do the opposite, and they looked the other way.
But then Congressman King committed the unpardonable sin. He came right out, no dog whistle, no coded language, no cosmetic fig leaf.
He came right out and asked how “why supremacy” became offensive.
So they will take some token actions. No vote to expel or even censure, run a less obvious racist in a primary to unseat him in 2020, and continue to support racist policies as long as they don’t come right out and say it.
At least, in his racism, Steve King was honest. (Though not in his backpedaling of it.)
Isn’t anyone bothered by the fact that the entire membership of the U.S. House — and a newly Democratic controlled House, at that — exploited our tax-funded time to stage what amounted to nothing more than a Republican Party campaign event?!
Personally, I’d be interested in learning why Bobby Rush voted as he did. I would suspect it might have something to do with First Amendment rights, for starters.
