Personally, I prefer “Happy Holidays” if I don’t know the other person’s religious background or if I’m talking to a group of people. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s called being inclusive and not being an a-hole. If I’m talking to someone that I know for sure celebrates Xmas then I’ll say “Merry Christmas” to them (like family members). Not sure when “Happy Holidays” became so offensive to the very group of people who hate others that get offended.

People have said “Merry Christmas” to me every year of my life. It didn’t matter who was President or which party had the majority in Congress.
