RATIONING access to health care based on where you work or how much money you have is literally: “Your money or your life.”
Health care (including medical, pharmaceutical, dental, vision, hearing and mental health) is a public policy issue — a matter of public health and safety just like law enforcement, firefighting or emergency first responders.
When your house is being broken into and you call the police, or your house is on fire and you call the fire department, or there is a natural disaster and you need emergency first responders, they don’t ask where you work, what kind of insurance you have or how much money you have.THEY JUST SEND HELP.What is the difference between getting hit with a hurricane and getting hit by cancer?
When your life is at risk from illness, injury or accident, access to life-saving health care should not depend on where you work, what kind of insurance you have or how much money you have. They should JUST SEND HELP.
It is no more a matter of “socialized medicine” than “socialized law enforcement” or “socialized fire protection.”
Well of course police, fire, and rescue services should be privately provided, just like medical care. You’ll get the best service possible – you know, like a full SWAT team for a litterer on your property, or a 5 appliance callout for a treed cat…..as long as your credit is good. Once you run out of money though….. /S
I realize that the current crop of politicians is too partisan to cooperate with either their opponents in Congress or “We the People”, but without a supermajority, how will the Democrats end the rancor, reunite the Nation, and start fixing the long-term problems? Will the progressives end the stagnation in government?
I have a Libertarian (so sorry. I tried) son with many preexisting conditions, and he’s on Medicaid. His daughter died recently, so I haven’t confronted him about this, but I shall in the near future.
Republicans call it the freedom to choose. They envision hundreds of private insurers chasing you for your business. Unfortunately, that only works for those who have money. Why do Americans have such short memories? Their system wasn’t working!
McConnell is hoping for a midterm windfall Republican election …..he says that if they get a clear majority in the Senate… then they will be assured success when they retry to repeal ahc ….one more time …gadzooks …they never give up …..the mentality to continually repeat the same mistakes over and over and expect different results…. just totally amazing.
Pre-existing condition; any illness, symptom, disease, or complaint you have that made you see a doctor. It existed before you sought medical care. See how easy it is?
If not for VA and having kept my health insurance after retiring, I (and my wife) would be totally screwed due to “pre-existing” conditions under any Republican “plans”. So I watch closely as Trump, McConnell, and Ryan try to take away my VA care and screw over my government retiree plan. But hey, somebody has to pay for the one percenters’ $1.5 TRILLION tax breaks!

If you’re not rich, the Republicans want you to die whether you vote for them or not. They’re the Phillip Morris of politics.

It continues to astonish how much Republicans hate the idea of people getting health care when they cannot afford it.

Your basic compassionate conservatism.

The older you get, the more likely you’ll have “a pre-existing condition” or two or three.
