Anyone who thinks that they are too small to make a difference has never tried to fall asleep with a mosquito in the room. Christine Todd Whitman

If you think about it, every single species is endangered. Homo sapiens at the front of the line, mosquitoes and lawyers at the back. Henry Rollins

A group of scientists wanted to find the most effective mosquito repellents. So they tested 10 different substances, including campout standbys like DEET, as well as a random choice: Victoria’s Secret perfume Bombshell. Turns out the perfume is almost as good as DEET. Annalee Newitz

That chain looks like it is made of paper links, such as those we made as children. The durability of the material used could suggest the fragile nature of all life.

To be a real food chain you need to use bacon.

Hamlet: Your worm is your only emperor for diet. We fat all creatures else to fat us, and we fat ourselves for maggots…A man may fish with the worm that hath eat of a king, and eat of the fish that hath fed of that worm.

King: What dost thou mean by this?

Hamlet. Nothing but to show you how a king may go a progress through the guts of a beggar.

At a science-fiction convention, the emcee was dressed as Dracula and began by informing the audience that no, we were in fact not at the top of the food chain.

To be pedantic, only the female mosquitos feed on blood (they need the extra nutrients to make eggs). The males live on nectar.

I was going to post a correction that mosquitoes are not predators, but parasites. Then decided not to.

I haven’t noticed a lack of mosquitoes here in Southeast Virginia. I have noticed an abundance of grasshoppers and crickets this year. I hear a chorus of crickets every night. I see lots of the green grasshoppers jumping for their little lives every time I mow the grass.

Most of the time I’m happy with my drawing skills, but not satisfied. Or the other way around. Accepting of my limitations, if not at peace with them. I can get my point across, with a little aesthetic bonus to make it fun as well as informative. But sometimes I want to do things that are beyond me. Although, to be fair, maybe beyond just about everyone except for the great M. C. Escher.

And I’m not sure even Escher could draw a paper chain twisted into a Möbius strip. So a simple circular chain it is.

Lots of critters at the bottom of the food chain. If they eliminated the particular mosquitoes that bite us, the next level would hardly notice.
