1) Lifting the sanctions
2) The United States political system in turmoil
3) NATO and G7 allies torn apart by trade wars and treaty differences
Regarding lifting the sanctions, Trump has called for this, but so far is blocked even by the Republican CONgress, which voted (with Democrats, to form a veto-proof supermajority) to strengthen the sanctions. So Trump simply ignores them and refuses to enforce them.
The chaos is intentional. It is not because Trump is stupid (he is, but that’s not the reason.) It is because Trump is following the orders of Putin who
a) has the pee pee videos
b) has the massive warehouses of evidence of Trump’s money laundering and other financial crimes
c) Russian banks (controlled by Putin) loaned (gave, because Trump never paid them back) billions of dollars when no other American or other banks would do so after this failed “business man’s” record of bankruptcies.
Putin’s puppet, no; but his fool, yes. Not his puppet because thinks he’s being tough on the Russians. He’s put sanctions on them and of course, he insulted Merkel by saying Germany is under Russia’s control. But his fool, yes. By breaking the bonds between the US and Europe, and helping weaken the EU and NATO, of course this must be beyond Putin’s wildest dreams. T. is a fool for others as well, in particular the Koch Bros. They have no time for him personally or for his ideas about public policy, but they’ve got him working for all their financial interests.

Trump is either Putin’s obedient puppet (thanks to kompromat or even just the huge debts Trump ran up with Russian-controlled banks), or he’s so stupid that he can be played by ex-KGB agent Putin like a violin. He has so far broken up the alliance that kept Russia in check for the past seventy years, cozied up to dangerous dictators who make us look like idiots, allowed China a free hand in the Far East, and has his toadies in Congress who think they are using him, but are obeying Putin. Why WAS there a meeting on the 4th of July IN RUSSIA with AMERICAN SENATORS? Why is no one talking about this?
