Huh? I sense a sharp curve coming up. Hates Jake, yes. Hates what’s happening to Endtown, yes. Involved in a cannibalism scheme, NEVER. Something odd is going on. Perhaps Walt is in on Jake’s plan and has to keep out of the way to give the bad guys an opening? If it is revealed that Walt is somehow involved with the disappearances, then we are certainly in the WRONG Endtown iteration. :-/

Man, I hope I was wrong yesterday when I mentioned offhandedly that Walt was more likely to be in the cannibal ring than Portia…

Wonder what ole Walt’s occupation was before he was a bear? Just curious… _____

Like in other shows set in post apocalypse, things can still go wrong.

I think maybe Walt is pulling away from her, or at least rethinking their relationship, because he saw a side of her he didn’t like when she insisted they go to the hanging.

OGE is right. Walter does love Portia, but does not like the way she handled what happened with Philo Foxworthy. Everyone thinks he’s the pig-killer, when he was really hung for spreading false news. At least Heather Hoss had a trial when she was accused of murder.

And now Jacob has launched a plan to use Portia as bait for the real pig-killers… before even talking to her about it! I understand what Jacob is trying to do, but he is clearly not taking Portia’s very delicate psyche into consideration. All it will take is just one phone call, and her sense of closure will burst wide open…

And don’t get me started on how Walter will react once he finds out about Jacob’s plan…

When Portia gets home……who’s she gonna find…….that is if she gets home. Better hope Velda finds her first or our local constabulary……like that pig officer……he was pretty sharp about the situation and such.

Portia used his love of her to force him to go to the hanging … and then talked only about her “closure.” Walt, like many a lover of either sex, is still feeling used and abused. And if something happens to Portia, he may revert to what he was before he gave up drinking. And Jacob will not find that to be pleasant.

Personally, I am still wondering about the degree of surveillance in Endtown. If security could control the fire extinguishing jets in the ceiling, it argues that there is a camera system to use with them.

And the whole place reeks of being a clone of “The Village” from “The Prisoner.” Complete with unknown(s) apparently directing security.

Perhaps Portia will survive this but her relationship with Walter won’t. I did some thinking about what Baslim The Beggar said about her forcing him to go to the hanging. Walter loves Portia dearly and wants to protect her at all costs but notice he’s got a tear in his eye in the fourth panel. Perhaps he’s agonizing over the fact that he doesn’t like the darker side of Portia he saw before and during the hanging and that may be enough to end his relationship with her, as painful as it may be.

“Hi, Portia. Told you I’d be back for you.” “But, you, you can’t be back! I saw you get hanged, Foxworthy! You’re dead! You can’t be here!” “No, Portia, Foxworthy was never one of us. You feared the wrong man. You transgressed, and now you must pay. Come with me, and we’ll make all the pain go away.” “Sure, why not. I wasn’t doing anything tonight, anyway.”

I feel bad for Walt. What Portia is playing at emotional blackmail, and it has been noticed by a number of people.

Funny, I was cleaning out my desk the other day, and came across my copy of the Endtown short story of Walter’s fishing expedition. He definitely seemed happier, all those years ago..

Walt’s a regular guy that’s been in the middle of a lot of bad stuff, and he’d disappeared into a bottle to get away from it all. Now that he’s back out of the bottle, he’s rattled by what the world around him has become, that he had to witness someone he knew get hung by the neck as his girlfriend cheered on, while Dolly (his best friend) helped fuel the wolf riots. He’s probably clawing on to what little internal strength he has just to keep from returning to his bottle. Reality sucks, and sanity is overrated.

Alternatively…there’s something Walt wants to discuss with the fish, and he’s been trying to get in touch.

Walt’s trying to find some sense of normalcy in a world he no longer recognizes.
