Beautiful mood to today’s strip. Sombre lighting. Minimal words. Narratively perfect. Chilling.

And so the die is cast. And so the cast dies.

I don’t know, wouldn’t a rat’s voice be distinct from other species? That could be a dead giveaway causing them to be set up for a trap.

Knowledge is a big burden here. What do you do when maybe 70 or 90 people in the upper crust is involved? A near insoluble problem. A difficult turn of events for any writer.

That was my suspicion all along. Portia seemed extremely manipulative.

Good thing Walt fixed her phone. Now if she can get Walt to go along without ripping Jake to tiny tasty rabbit bits. She’ll go along……its Walt who is going to be an issue.

Security, Freeman, are more interested in hiding their secret powers against people like Mayor Jacob than tracking down the cannibals. The police are doing a good job, like Colombo or Kojak as someone said. Mayor Jacob is hypnotized by the power of security and completely ignors the chief of police. I like the look on the rat’s face in the third panel. It’s one thing to know what they are going to ask, but another thing to actually hear it.

And in the fourth panel, Jacob is hoping he hasn’t helped murder someone else.

Just have to get past that Macho Bear to get to her. I think that is a bad idea.

I sort of remember those dialless phones but not what they were used for.

Beautiful, beautiful artwork. Very expressive. Now we’ll know what links all the pig killings.

They should know, if not who, at least where the person at the other end of the line is. A sting operation would put an observer where the phone is located and see who is on the other end. Remember, it may be modern technology upstairs, but its the 1950’s equivalent in the lower level.

I wonder how many mutant “species” there are. Are there any that are normally aquatic but living on land? And cephalopodian types? Like maybe with a squid’s head that could flail its arms around and yell “it’s a trap!”?

Numerous sources say human flesh tasts quite a bit like pork. So if that is the only reason they are harvesting pig folk is for pork flavored meat. Picture this, they decide they want to harvest for beef or chicken and find that they do not taste any different than pigs. Maybe the flavor is from human genetics and not from mutation.

scratch Portia Porter. So the hunt is on. Hope that Velda is ready to catch the one who is going to butcher Portia.

How did the process work? Someone names the target. Then what? It looked like someone goes in, leaves the box containing knockout juice, the victim writes a suicide note(or doesn’t), then drinks the knockout juice. Then the meat collectors come to pick up. How does Velda intend to work this “sting” when both sides know Portia’s not alone?

Security is playing Mayor Jacob for a fool. If security have anything real to say to a civilian mayor, they tell the chief of police. Then the chief of police translates it into civilian lingo for the mayor. Government hides military secrets against civilians. Loose lips sink ships. Free speech is a crime. Deal with it. The forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge in the Garden of Eden was a military secret.
