Conservative icon George Will: The “art of the deal,” according to the supposed Rembrandt of this art (a six-time bankrupt), seems to be this: Ask for the universe, settle for one of Jupiter’s minor moons, claim that the moon is actually the center of the universe and was the real goal all along, and that only he — not Metternich, not Kissinger — could have plucked this flower, safety, from the nettle, danger. However, the common denominator in most mishaps of governing — in both domestic (Prohibition, 1930s protectionism, the Great Society, 1970s wage and price controls, etc.) and foreign policies (Woodrow Wilson’s Fourteen Points, the Bay of Pigs, Vietnam, Iraq, Libya, etc.) — is the belief that the world is more malleable than it is, that inertia is less powerful than it is, that social variables can be made to vary as we wish them to. But, then, such mishaps were in the era B.R. — Before Rembrandt.
I have maintained that the two best books to read to get a feel for where we will end up is George Orwell’s “1984” and his equally prescient “Animal Farm”!
Now I’m going to refer you to a book that will help to explain HOW we are about to be living in Orwell’s books (and will also explain what has happened to the Republican party that has allowed Donnie to appear! That book is William Golding’s “Lord of the Flies”!
I just have one small problem – I’ve figured out who most of the characters are in real life – but I’m missing who would be “Piggy”!?
Allegories are never exact , but the disintegration of the Republican party follows the dissolution of the civilization of the British school boys too well to not “read” between the lines, so to speak!
how low have we gotten as a nation when it takes TPO Drumpf to make TPO Nixon appear as the voice of rationality and reason? Lordy. Oh, and I love Nixon’s use of “slapdash.”
The perpetual complaint of the sweaty elbows kid who when he finally gains power is so filled with malice that no matter his achievements and honors will abuse that power and find “enemies.”

Trump wants his coin so very badly. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed the “interesting” body language on the front of it.

Trump wants nothing to do with private thought out diplomacy. It does not get him the immediate attention he so desperately needs.

Mike Luckovich had a hilarious take on Trump’s “preparation” for the photo op.

Cute, Brian, but you left out the good part … how Tricky D and the Chinese spent six months debating about the shape of the table.

All my older brother cares about is his stock portfolio. Trump could be throwing babies into a wood chipper and he would say, “muh portfolios up 30%”.
